What is a Directory?
A Directory is a way to organize information in a particular manner. A Web Directory lists a website by category and a sub-category. For example, all travel-related websites are listed in a travel category and all health-related websites are listed in a health category. A famous example of a Web Directory is Dmoz.

Marketing Analysis
When we are going to establish a Company or Services we have to analyse the present position of our product or service in the market.
What is the demand for our product or service?
When we know how many Internet searches are made every day, week, month and year for our product or service, we can estimate how much demand there is for what we are selling.
More demand = increased chances of success.
What is the available supply of our product or service?
When we know how many businesses are already selling our product or service we can accurately estimate whether or not there is room in the market for our offering.
Who are our Competitors?
It's not enough to simply know what the supply (number of competitors) is, it's also essential that we know who our competitors are. For example, can we see the benefit of knowing we're considering entering a market owned by Fortune 500 companies that spend millions of dollars per year on advertising alone? What if we found out that our biggest potential competitor is a non-profit that gives away our product or service for free?

What is Search Engine Marketing (SEM)?
SEM - Search Engine Marketing is the combination of all the techniques that a webmaster can adopt to get visitors and increase the visibility in the net.
SEM is nothing but one of the forms of Internet marketing strategies. In this form of marketing what you do is to pay for the links you want to be shown in the search query result pages after the Search Engine takes the key word and shows the result. In this way it can also be termed as “Sponsored Link”. In accordance to the SEM Professional Organization, this marketing procedure includes a number of methods including, SEO, Paid Inclusion and Paid Placement.
There are several benefits of this form of Internet marketing. You can have a total control over the key words that are generating the traffic and also the cost or the amount that you are paying for the links. It can also generate instant traffic to your links and in this way this marketing procedure captures around 32% of almost all the clicks that a search page gets. Even you can have control over the target market by generating gender or geographic targeting. This will also involve experimentation with the keywords that you are using. Another great benefit of SEM is, for their concentrated target, they offers better rate of conversion. You can also buy a good rank on the search results in a jiffy.
However, there are some controversies also regarding this process of Internet marketing. The concept of paid ad was under several scrutinies as well as the way these advertisements are placed in the search result pages. But whatever the controversies be, SEM has come out to be a great way of internet marketing in today’s online marketing world.
